The National Mines First Aid and Safety Competition, an annual inter-mines safety flagship programme is designed to educate mine workers and the citizenry on basic first aid tips as well as foster consciousness of safety in their everyday lives.
The competition is organized by the Chamber of Mines with support from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission (IDMC) and the St. John Ambulance Service.
The competition, which has the official backing of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is in two parts:
- Zonal oral first aid and safety contest broadcast live on GTV (What Do you Know quiz show?); and
- The zonal practical competition on mine sites.
