The leadership of the Ghana Chamber of Mines has paid a working visit to Gold Fields Ghana as part of its renewed commitment to deepening engagement with member companies and addressing key industry challenges.

During the visit, Chamber executives held productive discussions with Michael Edem Akafia, Vice President for External Affairs at Gold Fields and President of the Chamber, focusing on critical issues affecting the mining sector.

Key areas discussed included the urgent need for policy certainty, particularly around regulatory frameworks and permitting processes. Both sides emphasized that predictable policies are essential for long-term investments and operational planning in the mining industry.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of developing a Critical Minerals Policy and Strategy to guide the exploitation of strategic minerals such as lithium and rare earths, which are becoming increasingly vital to Ghana’s green energy transition and global demand trends.

Other topics explored were value retention and local content enhancement, as well as human resource development, to ensure that mining continues to create opportunities for Ghanaians and support national economic growth.

The Chamber also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible mining, with a focus on environmental sustainability, community development, and ethical standards across the sector.

This engagement is part of the Chamber’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with industry players, improve investment conditions, and project Ghana’s mining sector to the global community with clarity and confidence.
