Ghana Chamber of Mines interacts with stakeholders in the Brong Ahafo region

The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sulemanu Koney, led a team from the Ghana Chamber of Mines to interact with key stakeholders in the Brong Ahafo Region between 21th -22nd June, 2016. This is in line with the Chamber’s annual regional stakeholder engagements in regions where mining takes place.

The CEO was supported by the Director, External Relations & Communications, Mr. Ahmed D. Nantogmah and the Communications Manager for Newmont Ahafo Mine, Mr. Agbeko Kwame Azumah. The team held meetings with the Deputy Minister of the Brong Ahafo region, Hon.  Justice Samuel Adjei.

Hon. Justice Adjei assured the team of his commitment to fight the illegal mining menace in parts of the region. He commended officials of Newmont Ahafo Mine for their partnership in improving the business climate in the region. He further expressed satisfaction at the relative cordial relationship between the mining company and its surrounding communities as a result of the community development projects undertaken to improve the livelihoods of the people.

On his part, the CEO indicated that the Chamber will continue to collaborate with the regional administration to ensure that the appropriate linkages with the mining industry are created to boost job opportunities and sustainable development.

The team later met the District Chief Executive of the Asutifi District Assembly and his Directors. The discussions centred on the contribution of Newmont to the development of the area and the way forward in preventing illegal mining within the communities. The DCE assured the Chamber of its commitments to work assiduously to ensure that the community reaps the needed benefits from mining.

A key component of the stakeholder engagements was the interaction with the regional press corps. Forty (40) journalists from media houses across the length and breadth of the region attended the meeting.

Below are pictures of the engagements.
