AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has been crowned the champion of the 2025 Zone III Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition after an impressive display of skill, teamwork, and knowledge at the What Do You Know studios of GTV.

The Zone III contest featured top mining companies including Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, Asante Gold Chirano Limited, and Newmont Ahafo South Mine. The competition provided a platform for participants to demonstrate mastery of first aid techniques, occupational health and safety protocols, and their knowledge of the Minerals and Mining Act.

The Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition is a flagship initiative of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, aimed at fostering a culture of safety excellence across the mining industry. Over the years, the contest has reinforced the importance of safety as the cornerstone of mining operations.

Competing teams showcased their preparedness in both the practical and oral sessions, highlighting the mining sector’s commitment to workplace safety, health, and emergency response readiness.

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine distinguished itself with an outstanding performance, ultimately securing the coveted Zone III title. Their victory underscored not only their technical competence but also their dedication to prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of employees.

With this win, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has booked a place in the national finals, where they will join host company Asanko Gold Mines and Golden Star Wassa. The highly anticipated national event will be staged in two sessions on October 18th for the practical session and November 2nd, 2025, for the oral session.

The national contest is expected to bring together the winners of the three zones and the host company to compete for the ultimate safety championship, while sharing best practices that can further strengthen safety culture within the industry.
