The President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor has tasked contractors of the Mine Head to proceed swiftly with completing the historic building in time for the 90th anniversary of the Chamber. Mr. Addo-Kufuor was speaking at a shot ceremony to officially hand over the site to contractors of the Minehead, which will be the permanent physical address of the Secretariat of the Ghana Chamber of Mines as well as the ECOWAS Federation of Chambers of Mines, which is hosted in Ghana.
Mr. Addo-Kufuor stated that despite the delays in the planned construction of the office accommodation, progress has been made to ensure that the building is completed to complement the repositioning of the Chamber and showcase the commitment of mining companies to the industry. He reiterated the need for the contractors and Project Manager, who are Ghanaians, to demonstrate the capability of indigenous people to execute such corporate projects as a way of making a case for local content.
Mr. Addo-Kufuor further stated that the Chamber will ensure that the contractors use local content as much as is permissible in completing the project to stimulate the growth of local businesses.
On his part, the representative of the contractors, Mr. Papa Takyi Afful, gave the assurance that his team, together with the Project Manager will work assiduously to ensure that the office complex is completed as scheduled and within budget. He stated that the team will be in constant touch with executives of the Chamber to ensure that work progresses steadily.
CEO of the Chamber, Mr. Sulemanu Koney, stated after the ceremony that: “We have come a long way and we are glad that this project is finally taking off. I want to commend our member companies for demonstrating their commitment to get this off the ground.” Mr. Koney was optimistic that the new building will enhance the productivity at the Secretariat and improve the quality of work of the staff.
Project is being executed by the Universal Prestige Co. Ltd with Mr. Emmanuel Bartels as the Project Manager. The building is expected to be completed in April 2017.
