Chirano Gold Mines has won the 2016 National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition after surviving stiff competition from defending champion Golden Star Wassa Ltd, as well as Gold Fields Ghana Tarkwa Mine and the host mine Perseus Mining.
The event, which took place on Saturday, 5th November, 2016 was attended by the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Akandoh, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines, Mr. Sulemanu Koney; the Chief Inspector of Mines, Mr. Obiri-Yeboah Twumasi as well as the chiefs and people of Gyaman and Ayanfuri.
The national practical contest was preceded by the quiz on GTV’s What Do You Know programme held on Sunday, 23rd October, 2016 and Saturday, 5th November, 2016 respectively.
The Perseus Mining was adjudged winner in the contest between the Community First Aid and Safety Brigades from Golden Star Bogoso/Prestea, Ghana Manganese Company and Newmont Golden Ridge Akyem.
