The Ghana Chamber of Mines congratulates His Excellency Nana Addo- Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Alhaji (Dr.) Mahamudu Bawumia on their ascension to the high offices of President and Vice President of the Republic of Ghana respectively.
President of the Chamber, Kwame Addo-Kufuor, in a congratulatory letter stated that: “This victory puts immense responsibilities on your shoulders to ensure that your well-thought out promises are implemented to support Ghana’s economic transformation.”
According to Mr. Addo-Kufuor, several challenges have plagued the operations of mining companies in the last three years. “Chief among these is the global price of metals which has taken a nose dive for the past three years. In addition, our members have had to grapple with the upsurge of illegal mining and the high cost of energy domestically. This has led to the implementation of several cost-cutting measures to keep the businesses afloat.”
He said if the challenges which have curtailed job-creation and local content participation are addressed, it will spur economic growth of the nation and bring greater value to the lives of the people.
Mr. Addo-Kufuor stated that the Chamber is assured that with the extensive experience and expertise of President Akufo-Addo in public service, he will succeed in improving the well-being of Ghanaians as well as the prevailing business environment. He pledged the Chamber’s unflinching support to the government in its quest to make Ghana the most favourable mining destination on the African continent.
