The annual flagship programme of the Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCoM) and the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission (IDMC) dubbed National Mines First Aid and Safety Competition will commence in August and climaxed in November, 2014.
The First Aid and Safety Competition is a must-attend event in the national mining industry
Calendar and is dedicated to promoting safe practices in and beyond the mining industry. The competition which has the official backing of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission seeks,
- To underscore the importance that mining companies attach to health and safety issues.
- To educate employees and host communities of the mining companies on health and safety practices
- To sensitize the general public on the importance of Safety in their daily lives and work.
The three zonal competitions which will precede the National event in November are scheduled as follows:

Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, Ahafo Mine
Chirano Gold Mines Limited, Chirano
Owere Gold Limited, Konongo

AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine
Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Limited

Newmont Gold Ridge Limited, Akyem Mine
The competition will be held among mining companies and their respective community first aid teams. The winning teams (both Mine and Community) from each of the Zonal Competitions qualify to participate in the National Competition. As well, the host of the National competition automatically qualifies to participate in the National competition. The National Competition will be hosted by AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa in November, 2014.
